Purpose:  An engaging and high energy way to have learners practice writing numbers in English

Preparation Time:  None

Materials Needed:  Dice, pencils, blank paper

Procedure:

Purpose:  To reinforce spelling in a fun and active manner that gets learners up out of their seats

Preparation Time:  5 minutes

Materials Needed:  List of vocabulary words, letters needed for the words written on index cards (one letter per card)

Working in a small group has tremendous advantages for adult learners; it provides the opportunity to practice their language and skills in a low-pressure setting, makes it possible for them to learn from and teach one another, and builds community in the classroom. However, sometimes certain learners take on most of the responsibility for their group, while others are reluctant to contribute. Assigning roles within the group helps to promote equal participation, and distributes accountability.

Potential Roles:

Purpose:  A fun and easy warm-up to help learners build their listening skills and practice distinguishing vocabulary words

Preparation Time:  None

Materials Needed:  None

Procedure:

Purpose:  A fun and upbeat game to review spelling, vocabulary, or reading questions

Preparation Time:  10 minutes

Materials Needed:  Dice, a list of questions or vocabulary words

Procedure:

Purpose: to make graph reading a concrete activity

Prep Time: 2-5 minutes

Materials: a long white board with space in front of it for students to line up, or a set of signs for the bar graph categories

Prep:  Choose two to five bar graph categories, depending on the number and level of students in class and either write them out across the board or make a sign for each and tape them up in a space where students will be able to stand in front of them.

Procedure:

Purpose:  To provide learners with the opportunity to practice spontaneous speaking on a variety of topics
