While much of the countrys' politcal news has concerned Senate races and tax bills, the FCC will soon vote on changes that could greatly affect everyones' access to the internet . One of many organizations working to make sure the internet is a open system is the National Digital Inclusion Alliance. While I always recommend investigating issues from both sides I do think their website is a great resource for digital literacy resources.

Today, more than 60 million Americans still aren't using the Internet at home. Most organizations have neither the know-how nor resources to address key barriers of digital literacy, awareness of affordable options for access and devices, or even availability of digital trainers.

Could there come a day when teachers actually ask students to turn on their smart phones for class?
As adult educators, I think we have a real opportunity to improve the success rate of older adult college students by strengthening their technology skills before they get to the point of feeling stigmatized.
