2019-2020 Literacy Leader Opportunities


We are now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 service year of Literacy Leadership Program! 

Literacy Leadership Program - (MLC) Pave the way for stronger literacy programs in your community! Become a Literacy Leader to tackle educational barriers for low-income, immigrant, or refugee children, youth, adults or families. (General listing to the Literacy Leadership program. Once host sites are selected, we will refer you to specific positions.)

Minnesota Literacy Council - VISTA Leader (St. Paul) (2 positions)
Do you have a year of experience as a service member? Build leadership skills by providing training, support, and resources to a statewide corps of 20 year-long Literacy Leaders and 50 summer VISTAs. Apply here

Brian Coyle Center - Youth Program Sustainability (Minneapolis) Brian Coyle Center works with the largest US community of the East African Diaspora and two major universities. Join us to support sustainability of our youth tutoring and Teen Tech Center programs.

Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth - Youth Engagement (Brooklyn Center) Do you have a passion for engaging youth about the decisions that impact their lives? Join our team to accelerate youth success, connect with partners, and develop high quality youth programs!

Department of Indian Work (Interfaith Action of Greater St Paul) - Youth Enrichment (St. Paul) Activate and lead literacy in our cultural program for Native American youth! Join our team to build a youth volunteer program, St. Paul partnerships, culturally-relevant curriculum, and family engagement.

Eden Prairie Schools Community Education - Family Literacy (Eden Prairie) Are you looking for real responsibilities and a meaningful impact? Want to gain valuable skills in program development, community outreach, early childhood and adult learning? Join our outstanding team!

English Learning Center - Distance Learning (Minneapolis) Become a member of our learning community of refugees, immigrants, and advocates, and empower adult students to independently pursue their learning and life goals through literacy.

Experience Corps Twin Cities - After School Initiative (Minneapolis) Create an intergenerational, after school initiative. Literacy and mentoring focused your service will support young readers & older adult volunteers seeking meaningful engagement.

Hopewell Music - using Music to enhance literacy outcomes (Minneapolis) Like music? Like statistics? Like Donuts? Hopewell music is the place for you! We’re looking for a talented VISTA passionate about music and its power to make the world a better place.

International Institute of Minnesota - Data Analysis Designer (St. Paul) Use your analysis skills for good! Be a part of the International Institute of Minnesota education team and work to decrease refugee and immigrant poverty levels by increasing access to education.

Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute - Writers' Room (Minneapolis-St. Paul) Come work with a creative writing center disguised as an ocean lab to build a satellite location for our programming in South High School! 

Milestones - Family Engagement (Waite Park) Be a leader for change. Young children’s lives are enriched by actively engaging with their families. Help it all add up to success.

Minnesota Literacy Council - VISTA Leader (St. Paul) (2 positions) Do you have a year of experience as a service member and want to be a peer mentors to others? Develop your leadership skills by providing training, support, and creative resources to a statewide corps of 20 year-long Literacy VISTAs and 65 summer associate Summer Reads VISTAs. Build your network serving with one of Minnesota's preeminent nonprofits.

Neighborhood House - Youth Literacy (St. Paul) Be a part of a helping tradition that spans 3 centuries. Assist the next generation of leaders by improving the opportunities of under-served youth. You can be a key to unlocking their potential.

Open Door Learning Center - Lake Street - Navigation (Minneapolis) Volunteer Navigators need your support to guide adult-learner journeys! Help get student dreams on the map!

Open Door Learning Center - Northeast - Student and Volunteer Outreach (Minneapolis) Make an impact on literacy for our newest neighbors in Minnesota. Pilot strategies for recruiting ESL adults to English classes and create pathways for learners to access leadership roles!

Open Door Learning Center - Northside - Distance Learning for English Language Learners (Minneapolis) Make an impact on literacy for our newest neighbors in Minnesota. Build a sustainable Distance Learning program for non-native English speakers at our adult learning center.

Partner for Student Success - SURPASS Project (St. Cloud) Use your energy to ignite the power of reading for youth English language learners. Work with local organizations to align literacy curriculum and strengthen our collective impact.

Reading Partners - Volunteer Engagement (St. Paul) Work for social justice and educational equity in the Twin Cities by serving at Reading Partners, engaging community reading volunteers to work 1-on-1 with elementary students experiencing poverty.

Urban Strategies - Heritage Park Literacy (Minneapolis) Develop creative programming to engage youth. Urban Strategies serves at-risk, low-income youth of color, and ELL students in Heritage Park. Join our dynamic team of dedicated professionals!
