What is "educational technology"?
It includes any type of technology used to help educators and learners achieve their goals and enhance their curriculum. Audio, video, digital images, computer software, and Internet resources are probably the most frequently used educational technologies. But even email, mobile phones, and Twitter can be used for educational purposes by the creative instructor.
Keep in mind that most technologies are not developed specifically for educators (with educational software and online learning resources being the exception). Most technologies - from laptop computers to digital cameras, DVD players to YouTube, and blogs to wikis - were invented to meet the needs of businesses and individual consumers, not the needs of teachers and learners. Yet teachers continually adopt and adapt these technologies for use in the classroom or distance learning environment. So what is "Educational Technology"? It's whatever you make it!
