Beginning ESL Teacher

Sally Sexton (she/her) is an ESL teacher at Open Door Arlington Hills.  Sally began her teaching career in 1996 teaching Family and Consumer Sciences and later, Parent Education, in the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district.  Sally holds a M.Ed from the University of Minnesota in Family Education and is a lifelong learner. She is a recent MN Leadership in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (MNLEND) fellow at the Institute on Community Integration at the U of M furthering her leadership and advocacy skills for systems and policy change for inclusive education.

Her interest in adult education began in a Family Literacy program where parents wanted to learn English better in order to understand and engage with the education systems in the United States.  This led her to volunteer and later substitute teach with Literacy Minnesota.  Sally feels most at home in the classroom community.  The wisdom, experience and resiliency of students motivates her to teach and she learns something new everyday..

Other things that keep Sally busy and inspired include reading poetry and memoir, running and skiing through the woods and caring for the dear people she loves in her life.
