Marian Eichinger

Volunteer Coordinator & Evaluation Specialist

Marian has been a member of the Literacy Minnesota team since July 2016. She teaches Intermediate ESL at Open Door Learning Center – Lake Street and loves the excitement to expand and excel that her students demonstrate. Sparking the desire to learn as well as exploring and appreciating multiculturalism and diversity is her passion

Marian’s interest in teaching began, fortuitously, at Literacy Minnesota back in the early 90’s where she received her Adult Tutor certificate. After volunteering for several months in Minneapolis with Literacy Minnesota, Marian’s love of teaching and travel took her abroad. She has taught English in Costa Rica, the Czech Republic and Poland. Back in the Twin Cities, Marian taught for many years with the Ronald M. Hubb Center in St. Paul. Marian holds a Master’s of Education in Adult Ed. from the University of MN – Twin Cities, and a TEFL certificate from ITC (International TEFL Certificate) in Prague, Czech Republic. Love of culture began early and she holds a BA in anthropology from Boston University.

In addition to teaching, Marian is also a Licensed Acupuncturist with the State of MN and practices at a clinic in south Minneapolis. When she is not in the classroom or clinic she likes to participate in community theater events such as the May Day parade and pageant, the Bare Bones Halloween pageant and the Fringe Festival. As an acupuncturist she volunteers her services at local events such as the MS150, the Pride Festival, and Open Streets. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and teenage daughter, their dog, and two cats. They enjoy supporting and exploring the local art scene by frequenting museums, galleries, Art-A Whirl, stage and movie theaters. When the weather allows, they love road trips, camping, tubing down the Snake River and growing vegetables.
