About 1 in 4 third-graders in the Twin Cities is not reading at grade level, and three-fourths of students who are poor readers in third grade will remain poor readers in high school. In these penny-pinching times, more in-school and after school programs utilize volunteers as a means to provide tutoring for children rather than cutting these much-needed services.
Our ABCs of Reading training is a three-hour, hands-on workshop that prepares adults to be reading tutors for children in grades K-3. Custom trainings for children's tutors are available on request.
- Approximately 761 tutors attended a children's tutor training session in program year 2010.
- More than 90 percent of training attendees reported greater confidence in their ability to tutor children.
- Sixteen community organizations partnered with us to provide training for their volunteers
