Northstar Digital Literacy Project

The Northstar Digital Literacy Project provides job seekers with certificates in recognition of their digital literacy skills. More than 300 sites nationwide proctor assessments for certificates in ten categories:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Internet
  • Windows OS
  • Mac OS
  • Email
  • Social media
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Information literacy

The Northstar website offers an open-access version of each assessment at www.digitalliteracyassessment.org.  The open-access version does not lead to certification, but can be used by teachers and learners for self-assessment and to inform instruction.  For agencies interested in offering certification, please click the link for "Sponsoring sites" below, and scroll down to the section "How does an organization become a sponsoring site?"  There you can find contact information and an application form.
