Understanding Immigrant and Refugee Trauma

Date: Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Time: 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Location: Minnesota Literacy Council, 700 Raymond Avenue, Suite 180, St. Paul, MN 55114

Many immigrants and refugees arrive in the United States having lived through monumental challenges and adversity, leading to profound long-term physical and psychological effects. How can volunteers, educators and community members navigate trauma within these displaced communities?

Join us for an evening with the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT), an international organization committed to advocating and providing care and resources for survivors of torture. CVT will guide us through their research, training, advocacy efforts and healing services for torture survivors. We’ll also explore some of the links between the choice (or lack of choice) to leave home and some of the ways in which community members can take action to break the cycle of violence for vulnerable populations. This is a free event, but we ask that you please register in advance.

CEUs are available.
