The Minnesota Literacy Council will be hosting a two-part workshop to help volunteer tutors explore issues around behavior management with youth of all grade levels. The workshops will be led by Dave Wilmes, former Director of Programs for St. Paul Youth Services.

Part One: Understanding Survival-Based Youth
The first of this two part training will use a strengths-based framework that explores resilience and the survival-based mindset. The training will explore how adverse childhood experiences (trauma) coupled with historical trauma and oppression result in youth with behavior/cognitive preferences that are compatible with the goals of survival, but not necessarily with school expectations and behavior norms.
