Volunteer Navigator Training

Dates: Friday, April 6, and Friday, April 20, 2018

Time: 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Location: Minnesota Literacy Council main office, 700 Raymond Avenue, Suite 180, Saint Paul, MN 55114

Note: Attendance at both sessions is required.

This training prepares volunteers to work one-to-one as mentors with adults learning English, studying for the GED, or participating in college or career prep programs. To be a navigator, volunteers must have prior experience with adult learners or working in a counseling or human resources related field.

After this training, volunteer navigators will:

  • be able to help students identify academic and career goals and know how to support them in those goals
  • understand ways to create a trusting and positive relationship with students
  • be able to provide a bridge for students from one academic or career step to the next
  • have strategies to help students overcome barriers that may prevent them from reaching their goals.
